Affinity/Interest Groups for Adults

Adults can find others who share their interests at SMUUCh. Current affinity groups include Game Nights and Science Groups.

Basically Boomers – This group of adults 50+ meet at various times and venues to get to know other church members and friends better. It could be "First Fridays" at the Crossroads, an Election Night Watch Party, or a simple BBQ in someone's backyard.

Cooking Group - If you love cooking, like cooking, or want to learn how to cook, join our group. We share recipes, hold cooking demonstrations, contribute to pot luck dinners and other events at church, and generally just have a good time in the kitchen. We meet the second Wednesday of each month at church. For more information contact Fiske Miles.

Game Night at SMUUCh - Enjoy game night at SMUUCh every Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. in the RE wing. They typically play board games like Settlers of Catan, Codenames, or Colt Express. Bring your favorite and we can try it out too.  Free child care and an evening of getting your game on.

Men's Group - ALL SMUUCh men are invited to join us 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. twice each month, once on the first Monday in Room 4 for informal discussion or a pre-selected topic and again on the third Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall for a potluck dinner, or offsite for a dining-out option.

Philosophy Group - If you're a philosopher, wannabe philosopher, or just someone who's interested in learning more about the great ideas of western civilization, come join us in room 4. For more information, contact Frank Strada.

Science Group - One of the seven UU principles is “a free and responsible search for truth and meaning.” The sciences are a part of that search.  The Science group sessions can include guest speakers on a science topic of interest or science-related films or video podcasts or even an outing to a science program in the community. Contact Dale Trott for more info.

Spiritual Texts reading Group - This reading group meets monthly to read and discuss a variety of books that help us, as Unitarian Universalists, in our personal spiritual search. Spiritual Texts

Thursday Non-Fiction Book Group - These lovers of non-fiction books meet in Room 4 at 7:00 p.m. on the fourth Thursday of each month.  Non-Fiction Texts

Tuesday Fiction Book Group - Meets the second Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in Room 4. These bibliophiles enjoy mostly fiction, but throw in non-fiction works occasionally for fun. Fiction Texts

Ulysseans – This is an energetic group of senior UUs, mostly retired, but not all, who enjoy getting together monthly from September through May for lunch and a program. The group usually meets in Fellowship Hall on the 2nd Tuesday of each month around noon. Some of the fun has included a trip to marble factory, tours of the new Kansas City Star building, the Nerman Museum at JCCC, the new Bloch Building at the Nelson, and area apple orchards.
