Volunteers: Our Religious Education Life Blood

Volunteers are the life blood of religious education at Shawnee Mission UU. From teaching and social justice planning to party planning and serving as a teacher's helper, SMUU relies on volunteers to provide the "people power" behind our successful program.

All parents are encouraged to volunteer — it helps us ensure a quality program as well as providing a means for parents to be engaged in the religious education of their children.

To volunteer, please contact Sara Sautter, Director of Religious Education at dre@smuuchurch.org

Teacher Helpers

A second adult is needed in all of our classrooms and in the nursery. This person not only provides a second set of needed hands (or feet for those trips to the restroom) but is also required in each classroom by church safety policy.

Fellowship Time

Volunteers are also needed each week to provide assistance to staff during the supervised Fellowship Time that takes place each week during each of our two worship services.

Religious Education Council and Subcommittees

The Religious Education Council and its subcommittees provide the policy making direction to religious education staff and report to the Board of Trustees of the church. The Council is comprised of the chairs of each subcommittee and two at large members. The Council determines annual curriculum themes to reflect the congregationŐs wishes, writes and implements safety and discipline polices and provides coordination and directions to subcommittees. Council and subcommittee membership is open to all church members and active volunteers. The Council meets up to six times per year.
