Notices and Reminders
COFFEE with Rev. Thom - Join Rev. Thom each and every Wednesday at Dunn Brothers Coffee House (90th and Metcalf, next to Half-Priced Books) from 4:15 to 6:15. Come to discuss whatever is on your mind.
Children’s Choir NOW FORMING! Do your children love to sing? Do they want to make new friends at SMUUCh? How about Children’s Choir! We will meet on Wednesday evenings 6:00 -6:45 pm. Choir is open to all children in first through sixth grade. For more information contact our Music Director, Dave Simmons.
Fall Family Fun Festival! - On Saturday, September 25, please plan to join us in Shelter #8 from 8:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. for a picnic at Shawnee Mission Park. We'll have a light, continental breakfast to start the day, followed by organized and unorganized play for young kids, older kids, and adult kids. At noon, we'll start the grills and cook up a great lunch, then play some more. Everyone is invited, members, friends, visitors, strangers off the street. The sole purpose of this picnic is to spend some quality time with each other and have fun. If you'd like to help with this effort, please contact: Gabriella Kusko, Marta Bainum, Sean Buffington, Danny Weddle, or Jim Crist. Click here for a map of the park.
Introducing the Easy Riders! – The lay ministry team is proud to announce a new program. Each month we will have two members of the congregation (plus at least one alternate) who volunteer to provide rides to church for those who may have difficulty driving. Here are the Easy Riders for March: Richard Pease, Sierra Buffington, and Alternate: Danny Hewett & Pat Duggan. If you know someone who you believe could use a lift to church, please ask them to call one of the scheduled Easy Riders. To volunteer for the Easy Riders, please contact Rev. Thom.
New Speakers Corner Team – Gabriella Kusko, Levi Sauerbrei, Erik and Linda Avery and Ted Thompson will be coordinating Speaker’s Corner. We appreciate and would like to recognize the past efforts of Liz Campbell in providing stimulating speakers every Sunday morning. The new team hopes to keep up the quality of presentations although they can’t guarantee the cookies will be nearly as tasty as Liz’s. Due to vacation schedules the Speaker’s Corner will take a brief break on Aug. 30 and Sept. 6. We look forward to seeing SMUUCh members and visitors at 8:30 am before the first service either in the Barn Chapel or in the Saeger House.
Interfaith Hospitality Network - For more information about how you can become involved contact Emily Meissen-Sebelius. IHN is a nonprofit organization which provides food, shelter, and support services to homeless families. More than 30 congregations in Johnson County are working together to provide these services; SMUUCh is proud to be a member and to have nearly four-dozen volunteers.
Choraliers Sing at Alternating Services - Please note that the SMUUCh Choraliers will be singing at alternate services (for the most part) throughout the church year. Choraliers will sing at the 9:30 a.m. service on the first Sunday of the month, and at the 11:00 service on the third Sunday of the month. If you have any questions contact Dave Simmons, Music Director. Choir practice resumes Wednesday, August 18 at 7:00 pm.
Fragrance Free Zone - The last three rows on the left side of Fellowship Hall are a designated Fragrance Free Zone. Please sit elsewhere if you are wearing perfume, cologne, or other scented products.
