If you are a member, or a visitor who has been with us over six months, we could use your help in the Religious Education Classrooms.  Classroom volunteers assist the lead teacher in the room, and provide an extra set of hands.  No preparation will be needed for this volunteer role.  Contact Rachel Wathen, DRE.

Preschool through Fifth Grade ~ Soul Matters Sunday Mornings

This thematic curriculum is tailored for each age group.  This program allows our students to have a deeper connection to our UU values by approaching our reflection each week through the lens of a theme.  For example, “What does it mean to be a people of welcome?” or “What does it mean to be a people of courage?”

Our reflection is intended to be experiential and lived rather than just “talked” about. We will do this through connecting activities, chalice lighting, sharing our joys and sorrows, stories, activities, meditation and movement that reflects the theme for the month. Our themes focus on our values as UUs and asks us to embody those values.

  • Childcare for 0 to 1st Grade ~ Provided on Wednesday nights from 6:00-8:00, with our vetted childcare workers Celeste and Ashley, so that parents may be involved in other church offerings.  Your student must be enrolled to participate.
  • Kids Club for 2nd -5th Grades ~ Trained in Conscious Discipline and as a teacher advisor, Carrie Rolling facilitates this group on Wednesday nights from 6:00-8:00.  Uniting activities and a focus on themes from Soul Matters, the kids are sure to have fun!

Middle School (6th, 7th and 8th Grades) ~ Neighboring Faiths Sunday Mornings

This Sunday morning curriculum is built around the premise that we have something to learn and value about neighboring faith communities.  While we explore the beliefs and traditions of those communities, we compare-and-contrast them to our own Unitarian Universalist faith.  This unique class promotes building bridges and understanding religion in our world.  Each month, along with our adult World Religions class, we will visit a neighboring faith or bring in a speaker from that faith tradition.

  • Jr. Youth Group – meets on Wednesday nights from 6:00-8:00 with our Jr. Youth Group Advisor. A time for connection and fun.

High School ~ Heeding the Call:  The Qualities of a Social Justice Maker – This Sunday morning course encourages students to explore areas of oppression and to grow personally into becoming a Justice Maker in our world.

  • High School Youth Group – meets on Wednesday nights from 6:00-8:30 for fellowship and fun.  Youth Group Advisor, HeatherAnne Norbury.

Current RE Class Assignment Policy

Our religious education classes form in June of each year and are divided into groups that reflect your child's developmental level as well as and our church's population and attendance patterns. Children are enrolled in their classes in June and most of them will remain with their class until the following May. This allows children to grow with each other and to form a small community of friends. Some toddlers may be moved between the Nursery and Toddler group in both June and January of each year.
