Salem Lutheran Church Food Pantry

Pantry Pack Volunteer Opportunity

Interested in helping families in our community?
Every week Salem distributes pantry packs to more than 40 families, most of whom have been identified as being in need by the staff at Rosehill and Rising Star Elementary Schools, where the children are enrolled. The packs have enough food for two or three healthful dinners, depending on the size of the family.
Salem Lutheran Church Food Pantry needs more volunteers to help distribute food once a week on Thursdays at their church in Old Town Lenexa. (91st and Haskins, just two blocks north and one block east across the railroad tracks from SMUUCh.) This is a perfect opportunity to get to know others in the Lenexa faith community and to become more visible members of that community - especially if you wear your bright orange SMUUCh Hunger Team shirt!
Two shifts are available, 8:15 - 9:15 a.m. and  4:45 to 7 p.m., on Thursdays. They have a critical need for evening volunteers. You will work with another volunteer from the host church. You can do this as a one-time volunteer opportunity, or on an ongoing basis.

When you sign up, make sure that you are signing up in a slot where there is a Salem volunteer (not another SMUUCh volunteer) because somebody from Salem always needs to be there to handle all the logistics. If we are taking the first opening in the time slot, we should probably put SMUUCh after our names so they know the other slot needs to be filled by a Salem volunteer. To volunteer, please use this Salem Pantry Sign Up Genius.

Our church helps support the pantry with a food drive every year.
Please contact Pat Duggan if you are interested in volunteering.
